ABOUT AGE ACTIVE
Health and Fitness
Especially for the Over
Fifties!
Age Active is a
registered charity committed to providing health and fitness activities
specifically for the over fifties in the South Yorkshire area.
Age Active has been running
classes since 1992, and has been a registered charity since 1996. We currently
have over 500 people a week attending 18 weekly classes, including
Keep Fit, Tai Chi, Line Dancing, Sequence Dancing, and Art and Craft
groups.
Age Active also runs
holidays, day trips, lunches and social events. Each month there is usually
something gong on, whether it's a full blown jaunt in the sun, a trip to a
London show, or a social dance in Sheffield.

| Regular exercise
has been shown to be of immense value to everyone, but particularly to older
people. Not only can it add years on to peoples' lives, but it can significantly
improve the quality of that life. |
|
| Inclusiveness |
|
| One of the main
problems with getting older is the increased sense of isolation. The feeling of
being cut off from the world around you and gradually losing friends and
family. Having the opportunity to meet with other people and mixing with a
social group is often given as the main reason for attending the classes. |
|
| Involvement |
|
| Age Active is a user-led organisation. Several of the members are
involved in the Management Committee and the classes are largely run by
volunteers; taking the register, making tea, organising trips out, raffles etc.
The sense of being involved in a group and actively helping in its day to day
running is invaluable to many people. |
